Access to various campus services such as email and H: drives appeared to be unavailable this morning. The various services affected were due to a network slowdown. Technically the network was not down but flooded with traffic, causing network congestion and giving the appearance of the network being down. It appears the cause of the excess â€œchatterâ€ or noise on the network may originate from a CPU on a switch, which is a network hardware component. Alerts notified tech services of the service problem. Since the network was not responsive they had to directly connect to the router on the server floor to diagnose it. The problem was identified and service was restored at 8:20.
